The first thing you need to know about the Instant ThumbView application is what it can do for you. The application’s name is a dead giveaway, but I have the distinct feeling you’re going to realize that only after you hear what this application can do. Without any further ado, here is the brief explanation of what Instant ThumbView can do:

While in Windows Explorer, when you will place the mouse cursor over an image file, a thumbnail preview of that image will appear. Instant ThumbView will do this for a variety of files: BMP, DIB, EMF, GIF, JPEG, JFIF, PNG, WMF, TIFF. This sort of functionality can prove to come in handy if you, like me, selected the Details view in Explorer.

The application comes with a Configuration Manager that allows you to play around with Instant ThumbView’s settings. From the Configuration Manager you can select for which image formats to view a thumbnail preview and for which to not see one. You can select how small or large you want these thumbnail previews to be. Last but not least, you can select to view thumbnail previews only when Scroll Lock is turned on and select to view large thumbnails when Caps Lock is turned on.

To take advantage of the functionality Instant ThumbView has to offer, you must first download the application off the web and onto your computer. This will only take a moment since the download weighs in at less than 1MB. You then have to install the application on your Windows-powered PC. Installing the application will take very little time as well; it is a simple process that goes along smoothly. At the time of writing this, Instant ThumbView provides support for Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, and XP (according to its developer).

You can use the Instant ThumbView free of charge only for a trial period of 30 days.
